Donations for Flood Victims


The ongoing aftermath of floods has wreaked havoc in the whole country. Millions of people have been affected and are highly vulnerable by severe flooding in Southern and northern part of Pakistan. On that account, English Literary Society (ELS) and Character-Building Society (CBS) of the Institute of English Studies, teamed up to establish "Donations for Flood Victims" which was an eight day long donation drive from August 30, 2022 to September 8, 2022. Contributions in both cash and in kind were accepted.
On August 29, 2022, the project was introduced to the students in the Institute of English Studies at 11:30 am. The objective of the event was to encourage significant awareness regarding the plight of flood victims and to generate funds in aid of those who are struggling with surmounting destruction and crisis.
The director of IES, Prof. Dr. Amra Raza, along with the faculty members, and Coordinators Miss Maryam Raza (ELS) and Miss Hooria Liaquat (CBS) attended the event. Filza Randhawa, Vice-President of CBS, moderated the event. In addition to that, Fizza Liaqat, the President of ELS, and Maida, a member of CBS, delivered thought provoking speeches, emphasizing the need to help Pakistanis in times of ordeal. Moreover, students from different semesters expressed their feelings in words through poetry, both in English & Urdu. The event was concluded with a collective prayer / Dua e Khair for the flood victims by Hafiz Waqas Asghar from ADP Replica, Semester 5.
The donation drive began with a promising result foreseen with a collection of Rs. 12,000 on the very first day. It was expected that through such endeavors, students will learn the value of lending a hand in the times of distress. Following that, IES was able to raise a fund of Rs. 130,000 that was successfully converted into goods comprising of 15 tents, 32 boxes of biscuits, 60 packs of sanitary pads, 100 pieces of soap, 25 packs of half kg Gram, 15 Fly nets, 20 packets of 1kg washing detergents and undergarments. Moreover, 7 cartons of clothes for men and women, 1 carton of bedsheets, 1 carton of Children’s clothing, 9 cartons of water bottles, 6 cartons of milk, 3 sacks of shoes and medicines were dispatched via STC of University of the Punjab on 12 September 2022.
ELS & CBS were able to revive humanity through this generous act and are in hope that these supplies reach the ones in need, safe and sound.
